1. Introduction

TrueScan ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile application that provides document scanning, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), PDF creation, and file compression services. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Local Data Processing

TrueScan processes all document scanning and OCR operations locally on your device. Images you scan are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.

2.2 Advertising Data

TrueScan is free and supported by a single banner ad. Google AdMob shows that banner inside the Files list and uses your device's advertising ID for ad measurement. There are no full-screen or video ads. You can delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Privacy → Ads). Where Google requires consent (for example in the EEA and the UK), a Google-certified consent form asks for your choice before any ad is requested, and you can change that choice later from Settings → Ad privacy options.

2.2a Remove Ads Subscription (Optional)

An optional auto-renewing subscription removes the banner ad: monthly (Rs 30/month) or yearly (Rs 280/year, ~22% off). Payment is handled entirely by Google Play — we never see or store your payment details. The subscription auto-renews until you cancel it in Play Store → Payments & subscriptions. Prices include taxes where applicable.

To keep the banner off on every device you sign in on, the purchase is verified with Google Play by a Cloud Function and the resulting subscription status is stored against your account in Cloud Firestore. A one-way hash of the purchase token is stored alongside it so the same purchase cannot be transferred to a different account; the token itself is never shown to anyone.

2.3 Authentication Data

If you choose to sign in with Google (optional — sign-in is not required to scan):

• Email address and profile photo via Firebase Authentication
• Authentication tokens for secure access

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data only for the following purposes:

• Providing Services: To process your document scans and generate PDFs
• OCR Processing: To extract text from scanned images using on-device ML
• Advertising: To serve and measure ads via Google AdMob
• Account Management: To authenticate your account and secure access

4. Data Storage & Security

• Local Storage: Scanned documents are stored in the app's private device storage and protected by your device's security features
• OCR: All OCR processing happens on-device using Google ML Kit
• Data Retention: Local data lives on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app

5. Third-Party Services

TrueScan uses the following third-party services:

• Google ML Kit: For on-device OCR text recognition
• Firebase Authentication: For secure user authentication
• Google AdMob: For ads shown in the Files screen
• Google Play Billing: For the optional Remove Ads subscription (Google Play handles payment; we receive only the subscription status)
• Google Play Services: For app functionality and updates

These services process data according to their own privacy policies. OCR processing is performed entirely on-device and does not send images to Google.

6. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: You can view all your scanned documents within the app
• Delete: You can delete individual documents or all data from the app settings
• Ads: You can delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Privacy → Ads)
• Account Deletion: You can request account deletion, which removes all associated data

7. Children's Privacy

TrueScan is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
